Assalaamu Alaikum
Well here is a day
in the life of the Taalibuddeen Family.
Well its early to
rise, with a joyous tone from Umm, rise and shine and give Allah your Glory.
Boy this just makes the kids get up out of the bed screaming please no
more no more my ears my ears. Lovely bunch they are. daily
hygiene, Salatul Fajr. Daily household chores after salat.
After the sunrises
a quick nap. 9am classes begin.
Zubair's Arabic teacher
arrives between 8:30 and 9am his classes last for about an hour and a half.
Then his English and Math's kick in and the other children begin their
day at about 10am, after a nice breakfast.
Our school day last
from about 10am-12pm and then from 1-4pm and then it is time for me to
begin preparing our meal which is a major event we have to shop everyday
for the freshest veggies, go to the chicken shop every other day, electricity
is not that stable here so cant stock freezer like I would like to. Now
it is time for our study hour which is from about after isha which
is about 7pm until 8:30 and then 9pm is bedtime for all children.
The little children have an hour and a half of Arabic in the afternoon.
We are unschoolers so our time and methods of teaching vary. I believe
that daily life chores are teaching tools and every opportunity that
I get to teach the children something is used.
The other night prior
to bed we had a brief lesson on why you wipe your bed before laying in
it, amazingly it was all in Arabic, because the lesson that I received
was in Arabic and my four year old asked in Arabic, Umm logatul inglisia
minfadlik Inshaa Allah. I found this so amusing. Ma shaa Allah
we are taking it one day at a time. The children are doing their
math's in Arabic and not in English boy they are enjoying it.
Anyone have any good
Ideas on teaching reading! I need all the help that I can get.
You know I dont use text books just lots and lots of reproducible pages
and print outs from the net and my little old brain. so my desk looks
a frieght as it is covered with papers I need to make myself a cabinet
and lock it so that the children dont have access to it. Well after
school they study for four to five hours with breaks in between so they
get about 6-7 hours of classes and study.
Assalaamu Alaikum
