Welcome to ArabesQ!
Business
A Geography Day for a Muslim Family!

(This web-page is updated to reflect current schedules in our home as each Umm submits the info to ArabesQ.)

As Salaam Alaikum,

Well I was busy this morning.  My oldest daughter is bored with her geography studies and wants more freedom to study whatever she wants.  I told her that would be okay but could we have some guidelines to go by.  She agreed and this is what we came up with together.  She is excited about it and so am I.

Do I need to add anything to it?  Any suggestions?

I asked her that when she does start on this to keep it in a general area, maybe (?) because that would be holding her back.  We were looking at past issues of National Geographic magazine and she is thinking about maybe doing one on "The Lost City of Petra" in Jordan, I believe that is where it is.  And also the Clay Soldiers of China.  My daughter is a mini-expert on anything Egyptian and Greek, mashallah, and wants to explore and research more into
this.

Anyway, here is my geography guideline.

Jazak Allah Khair,
Mariam Abdullah

THE WORLD IS YOURS TO DISCOVER

You have the choice of which country to study.  The length of the project can last anywhere from a couple of days up to two weeks.  For each country that you plan on researching, you must gather all of your information in the form of a travel brochure, book form, or poster presentation along with a written report.    You must be sure to list all sources of your information (i.e. National Geographic, Internet, Encyclopedia, library book, etc.).  Your
resources must be included in the form of a bibliography at the end of your  written report.

Include the following in your country packet:
Map of the country.
Flag of the country.

Does the country have an Islamic history?  If so, include that history using a who, what, where, when and how format.

A report must be included in your packet which covers the following:
Which continent is the country in?
What is the country’s climate?
What are some notable landforms (mountains, lakes, rivers, deserts, volcanoes, etc.)
What is the capitol?
What are some other major cities?
What type of government does the country have?
Economy (money unit, etc.)
Natural resources
Imports and Exports
Cultural aspects of the country:

Languages (with examples of the language - numbers, alphabet, greetings,
family  endearments, etc.)
